![]() ![]() I love the diverse cast of characters the author nicely covers the LGBTQ rainbow as well as showing disabilities and how they don’t have to limit you in what you do. To try to describe it would ruin the discoveries the reader makes as the book progresses. ![]() My Thoughts: This is one of those books the defies genre it is part survival story, part horror, part historical commentary, part cult fiction, part love story and so much more. Finding the truth will mean uncovering the secrets of the compound she fled but also the violent history in America that produced it. To understand her metamorphosis and to protect her small family, Vern has to face the past, and more troublingly, the future – outside the woods. Forced to fight back against the community that refuses to let her go, she unleashes incredible brutality far beyond what a person should be capable of, her body wracked by inexplicable and uncanny changes. There, she gives birth to twins, and plans to raise them far from the influence of the outside world.īut even in the forest, Vern is a hunted woman. Synopsis from Goodreads: Vern – seven months pregnant and desperate to escape the strict religious compound where she was raised – flees for the shelter of the woods. ![]() ![]() ![]() This certainly doesn't mean that I'm quitting my day job, but it does give me a place to shed a little light on what it's like to be a kid from Springfield, Virginia, walking through life while living out the crazy dreams I had as young musician. The joy that I have felt from chronicling these tales is not unlike listening back to a song that I've recorded and can't wait to share with the world, or reading a primitive journal entry from a stained notebook, or even hearing my voice bounce between the Kiss posters on my wall as a child. ![]() Having entertained the idea for years, and even offered a few questionable opportunities ('It's a piece of cake! Just do four hours of interviews, find someone else to write it, put your face on the cover, and voila!'), I have decided to write these stories just as I have always done, in my own hand. ![]() THE SUNDAY TIMES NO 1 BESTSELLER * ONE OF NME's BEST MUSIC BOOKS OF 2021 * ONE OF VARIETY'S BEST MUSIC BOOKS OF 2021 * INCLUDED IN AUDIBLE'S BEST OF THE YEAR LIST ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() They have inherited their Mum’s brilliance, courage and determination. Throughout everything she went through she was a rock for her four incredible children, and they were for her. Devastatingly, on the 1st August 2022 the weight of this suffering robbed this world of beautiful Karen. Unfortunately she was an expert because she had faced a lifetime of pain, abuse, injustice and systemic failure. She would give her last penny to anyone who needed, and volunteered for various organisations that work to meet people’s most basic needs and to influence people with the power to make changes for them. Karen was a defender and advocate of people living with any kind of pain or injustice. Karen was that person - funny, kinder than kind, courageous, and the absolute best Mum (to everyone, not just her kids). Every now and then you come across someone so special they take your breath away. ![]() |
